To criticise or to critique?
"Criticism" and "critique", what's the difference?
Criticism is negative and general, "Your report on the environmental impact of modern life was a waste of paper." A typical response is to tear it up and start again, still with no idea how to improve it. Don't do that; ask for clarification.
A critique is positive and specific, "Your report makes some excellent points - more emphasis on recycling and I think you're there, particularly if you quote some of the recent statistics from the World Economic Forum." Thanks, I'll get onto it right away.
When giving an opinion never criticise, always offer a critique, but on the receiving end always be grateful. #proteuscareermanagement
