FINDING THE RIGHT PROFESSIONAL LINGUIST FOR YOUR PROJECTS

FINDING THE RIGHT PROFESSIONAL LINGUIST FOR YOUR…

As a Manchester based professional French and Italian linguist with 15 years experience in the UK, I have recently become a member of Manchester Professionals, and I thought I would share some insights on how, as a company or organisation, you could best access the services of professional linguists for your projects, whatever their size.

At any given point, many companies who start accessing the international market or who work internationally, or with foreign clients or suppliers in the UK, will need the services of a professional linguist, either occasionally, or on a regular basis. However, they are often not aware of the many UK professional linguists organisations which are available to them, spending days searching the internet aimlessly, without being guaranteed the services they expect.

The same applies to foreign nationals based in the UK (students or professionals), who might need a translator to translate and certify their official documents, CVs or qualifications, or who might need an interpreter to assist them during their appointments, or a teacher to brush up on their language skills before going abroad for work or on holiday, or to buy property there.

The range of services offered by professional linguists include face to face, telephone and conference interpreting, translation, transcription, localisation, typesetting, DTP, voiceover, and training into or from your chosen language.

As a company, organisation or individual, you can save yourself precious time and be guaranteed to have the services of a suitably qualified, experienced professional linguist whose credentials are checked, by finding a linguist matching your exact requirement who has the relevant experience in your chosen language and field, amongst six UK professional linguists organisations. As well as having a directory of professional linguists, these organisations offer training of the highest calibre to professional linguists.

When choosing a professional linguist, do make sure they are fully qualified, either as an interpreter or a translator (depending on your needs), and that they belong to at least one of the following organisations:

    • The North West Translators Network (NWTN)
    • The National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI)
    • The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL)
    • The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI)
    • The Association of International Professional Translators and Interpreters (AIPTI)
    • Proz.com (a US based organisation)

As a professional French and Italian linguist with 15 years experience, I belong to 5 of the above organisations, and passed the CIoL’s BA and MA level qualifications, as well as business and exports qualifications in my native France, with distinctions and merits. I specialise in the business, legal, government and public services fields, and also have extensive experience in the medical, environment and development fields, and offer the best possible service in these fields.

Please do feel free to contact me to discuss any of your projects in French or Italian, or for general advice, any time, by emailing me at [email protected], or by telephone on 0161 301 2885, or 077 9913 3963.

I look forward to hear from you - many thanks in advance.
