London house prices have now fallen year on year for ten consecutive months.

HM Land Registry's UK House Price Index for June 2026 puts the average London property at £554,000, down 2.5% on a year ago.

Inner London is driving the decline, with 19 of 33 boroughs posting annual price drops.

Barking and Dagenham is the cheapest borough at £371,000. Kensington and Chelsea remains the most expensive at £1.3 million. Nationally, the UK average sits at £272,188, up 2.0% year on year but slowing sharply from 3.0% the month before. The North West leads English regions at +4.7%. London sits at the bottom.

London also has the most homes available for sale since 2010.

That combination of falling prices and record supply means London agents face the most competitive listing environment in over a decade.

When buyers have that much choice, the listings with professional photography, a floorplan and a well staged interior get a higher chance of getting opened. Staging gives the camera something worth capturing, so the space and the photography work together to earn that first click.

The ones without likely get scrolled past. That is just how portals work, regardless of how good the house is behind the photos.
