Never accept second best.

Never accept second best.

Early in my career, while I was working in Denmark at the National Research Centre, a mentor of mine, Dr Bachu Singh, gave me an important addition to one of Somerset Maugham's famous sayings - an addition that has stood me in good stead ever since.

Simply add the words, "from yourself" to one of his famous sayings and it becomes, "if you refuse to accept anything but the best from yourself, you very often get it."

In whatever you do in your career, your relationships or your life, never relax into complacency, never accept second best and you will feel truly blessed. And as a bonus, you'll probably be quite successful as well.
