Summary
Medically qualified hypnotherapist. Thus the input into the consultation is not only from the hypnotherapeutic expertise but is also enhanced by the underlying medical and psychological framework and background knowledge. Happy to work with individuals or organisations, I am more than delighted to speak beforehand to assess whether hypnosis is suitable. My contact is meycapek@doctors.org.uk or 07754-805 905(via my PA).
Expertise
My special interest is in the interaction between mind and body, dealing with the complex, or treating unresolved long term medical or psychological conditions. In reality this means I am prepared to treat any of the following conditions. -Stress and Anxiety -Anger -Depression -Mood Swings -Low Self Esteem (Hating yourself) -Chronic Pain -Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -Grief and bereavement -Obsessive compulsive disorder -Phobias-Fear of... (you name it) -Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME -Fibromyalgia -Cancer -Irritable bowel disease -Acid indigestion -Skin problems -Headaches including migraine -Impotence and sexual dysfunction -Medically unexplained symptoms -And many other medical conditions, too many to name here. I am happy to take on couples, group sessions or undertake corporate work. I tend not to deal with smoking cessation or weight reduction in isolation unless it is part of a broader management plan.

Northern Moor Medical Practice
Principal
- CurrentNorthern Moor Medical Practice is the base of my "day" job as GP. The hypnotherapy I practice privately away from the surgery and it is that, that I am the sole trader. I qualified as a doctor in 1979 and started out as a GP from 1985. I obtained my masters in Health Psychology in 1997. I am an approved GPSI (GP with Special Interest) in mental health, supporting the Central Manchester mental health team. I learnt the hypnotherapy trade back in 2000 and developed the skills on the practice population inviting in those patients, whether they had physical or psychological problems, who could not be easily treated by other means. Thus I am able to treat a very wide range of conditions and complexity is not a problem as long as sufficient time is allowed. I became accredited with the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis(BSCAH) in 2004, making me eligible for their referral list as a therapist who practices ethically and safely. I have recently completed writing a chapter on the hypnotherapeutic treatment of medically unexplained symptoms in a textbook of clinical hypnosis for therapists. -
